The technologies really seem to be something inherent to the human being. The ability to adapt to the most diverse scenarios in different climatic conditions and with different challenges is certainly something that impresses. Our species has an inventive capacity, capable of attributing many feats accomplished by men even to extraterrestrials, as is the case with the pyramids of Egypt.

Yes, the concept of technology is not restricted to all these technological and digital devices that we have today. Technologies are nothing more than the use of techniques and knowledge that are acquired to improve, facilitate work, solve problems or perform tasks.

Isn't it very clear yet? Okay, let's exemplify. Imagine that many years ago, the builders of a construction site had to carry a lot of weight on their backs to build a building, carrying sandbags on their backs. Very complicated, don't you think? Now let's imagine the same work and the same process with the help of pulleys. There, a technology that facilitated an entire process.

As much as it is a common thought to link technology to digital things like tablets, smartphones, electric cars or artificial intelligence. Everything that comes as a technique to shorten paths, facilitate operations or anything else that comes to benefit is valid as technology.

The technologies are so inherent to the human being that their advance is much more overwhelming than the evolution of the species. Just stop and realize how many millions of years have passed so that we reach exactly the evolutionary level that we are as a species and compare with the technology of the world 100 years ago, where machines still did not occupy the fields in agriculture. Do you realize that in a small interval of 100 years the evolution of technology was massive?

Let's do an exercise with an even shorter interval of time. Think of cell phones 20 years ago. Who would have thought that in that short time he would reach the technological level that he reached today? Absolutely no one. Touchscreen technology itself, even so common today, is not 20 years old.

In this text we will address the revolution that technology has caused in the field of art. But, knowing that its concept is vast, be aware of the fact that technology has revolutionized several segments, if not all the others.

The great revolutions in art

Art, like technology, is inherent to human beings. There is no consensus when it comes to the emergence of art, but it is a fact that artistic manifestations have been present since the earliest times. What would make this text subject to hours of reading. Because of this, we will address here only the main artistic movements in the 20th century.

It turns out that the 20th century stands out for several and latent historical changes. These changes, because they are so profound, affect a whole political-social behavior. An example of this is the emergence of trade union movements, the result of accentuating the differences between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, enhancing capitalism.

In the eye of the 20th century hurricane, a period marked by contradictions and complexities, art could not be left out, could it not? Well know that this period was fertile ground for the creation of new concepts in the arts segment.

To deal with the perplexity of contemporary man, we can mention movements such as Pop-art, Op-art, Dali's Surrealism, Duchamp's Dadaism, Mondrian's Abstractionism, Boccioni's Futurism, Picasso's Cubism, Matisse's Fauvism and Anita Malfatti's Expressionism

The text would become a book if we were to approach it one by one. What you need to know is that each of these artistic movements mentioned above are marked by very particular techniques and characteristics of each one, and although we quote a great artist from each of these movements, know that each of them has a series of many other artists and even artists who are in more than one movement.

The impact of the relationship between art and technology

Technology, although not digital, is linked to innovation. And guess what? Art does not think differently. Among the most different movements, what makes art something burning and vibrant is the surprising. The never seen. Understanding this point, it is easy to understand that technology and art are related and coexisting things.

4 technologies that transformed art

Photography

One technology that directly affected the creation of artistic movements was photography. Painters had to start investing in works whose camera would not be able to reproduce. An alternative to the critics, who said that it was the end of the painting, since it went through trivialization due to the new technology.

The photograph appeared at the end of the 19th century, more precisely in the year 1826. The first photograph was attributed to the Frenchman Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. However, the emergence is the final touch of a millennial process that involved countless scholars, including chemists, scientists, alchemists, among others.

Henri Cartier-Bresson, Annie Leibovitz, Robert Capa, Sebastião Salgado, Steve McCurry, Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Robert Doisneau, Walter Firmo are some of the exponents of photography where many have awarded work worldwide, with exhibitions that really delight.

Print

Before addressing the emergence of the print itself, it is important to say that the records were made on parchments that were of animal skins. Only in the 2nd century A.D. there was the role whose invention is attributed to Ts'ai Lun.

Through this new invention, you can imagine that printing grew very quickly, right? Well, not quite. This is because even though there was paper, the production of books was something very rare since the whole process was very expensive, copies were made by hand. Can you imagine the series of throne books being done manually, copy by copy? It would be hard and time consuming work.

It is in the 15th century that a real turnaround takes place in this process. Then came the Gutenberg press. It was named after its inventor, Johann Gutenberg. This invention revolutionized the whole of Europe, made the production of books cheaper by the ease that the process gained. Hence, the first impression was of the Holy Bible, in Latin and with Gothic letters.

Precisely because it brought this facility, everything became simpler and art, mainly literary, was spread around the world. Printing made it possible to transfer large works all over the world.

Video

Architecture, Sculpture, Painting, Music, Poetry, Dance and? Movie theater! The appearance of “moving images” created nothing more, nothing less than the seventh art. Cinema whose industry is no more profitable than that of electronic games.

Like photography, cinema did not appear overnight either. There were many investigative processes to unravel optical science until they reached the final result. But, for didactic purposes that make this text more objective, know that cinema appeared in the 19th century, in 1895, in France. The feat is attributed to the brothers Lumière, Auguste and Louis. In short, the emergence of video has not only affected art, it has also created great artistic expression.

Programming

Programming is something that will probably be taught in elementary schools in a few years. Yes, with each passing day it is known that programming is something fundamental and that, in times of many digital technologies, it becomes a crucial field whose market lacks good professionals.

Since 1960, many artists have been experimenting with computer technology as a tool in the creation of their works of art. There are even works that assist artists in learning programming to facilitate practice in art.

Conclusio

Did you notice how technology and art go hand in hand? Technology influences everything, with art it could not be different. Whether in programming, photography, videos or printing, technology plays a crucial role in the innovation of art as well as in its aspects and movements. Did you like this article?
